How to Beat Priscus the Ancient in Crimson Desert
Boss strategy for Priscus the Ancient, the flying giant in the Spire of Ringing Truth. Covers ranged combat tactics, Sleep Arrows, Nature's Snare, and all loot drops.
Priscus the Ancient is a massive flying boss found deep within the Spire of Ringing Truth in the Pailune region. Unlike most bosses that you fight on the ground, Priscus hovers in the air for much of the encounter — making this primarily a ranged and ability-focused fight that requires a different loadout and strategy than standard melee encounters.
Location
Priscus the Ancient is in the Spire of Ringing Truth basement, located in the western area of the Pailune region. To reach the boss:
- Climb the Spire of Ringing Truth tower
- Shoot the bell at the top to make it fall through the floor
- Descend through the hole created by the fallen bell
- Navigate the basement area to reach the boss chamber
This is an optional boss — you do not need to defeat Priscus for story progression, but the rewards are excellent.
Preparation — Ranged Build Required
This is not a fight you can win with melee alone. Priscus spends most of the battle floating in the air, out of melee reach. You need ranged options.
Essential Skills
- Marksmanship — Improves bow accuracy and damage at range
- Charged Shot — High-damage single arrow for punishing openings
- Evasive Shot — Dodge while shooting to stay mobile
- Nature's Snare — Critical ability for grounding Priscus (see strategy below)
Gear
- Best available bow upgraded as high as possible
- Sleep Arrows — Special ammunition that puts Priscus into a deep sleep when enough connect. Craft or purchase before the fight.
- Plenty of cooked food (50+ meals)
- Standard melee weapon for grounded damage windows
Sleep Arrows are the secret weapon of this fight. Landing enough Sleep Arrows puts Priscus into a deep sleep and forces him to the ground, creating the longest melee damage window available. Stock up before heading to the Spire.
Boss Overview
Priscus is a giant winged creature that fights primarily from the air. He fires laser-like projectiles at your position and occasionally swoops down for attack runs. The challenge is dealing meaningful damage to an airborne target while dodging ranged attacks in a confined arena.
Attack Patterns
Laser Projectiles
Priscus fires concentrated energy beams at your position. These track your movement for a brief moment before firing. Strafe continuously and change direction when the beam locks on.
Swooping Attack
Priscus dives from the air, sweeping across the arena. The wind-up is obvious — he pulls back and angles downward. Dodge sideways at the last moment.
Area Blast
Occasionally slams the ground or releases an energy wave across the arena floor. Jump or dodge through the wave.
Strategy — Three Ways to Ground Priscus
The entire fight revolves around getting Priscus to the ground so you can deal real damage. There are three methods:
Method 1: Sleep Arrows
Fire Sleep Arrows repeatedly. After enough hits, Priscus falls asleep and crashes to the ground. Rush in with melee attacks — this is the safest and most reliable method.
Method 2: Nature's Snare
Use the Nature's Snare ability to block Priscus's laser projectiles. The blocked energy creates an opening — follow up with Nature's Snare Retribution to yank Priscus to the ground. This is the fastest method but requires precise timing.
Method 3: Force Palm
When Priscus swoops low during attack runs, use Force Palm or Nature's Retribution to stagger him out of the air. This method is opportunistic — you cannot force it, but it extends your damage window if Priscus swoops while you have abilities ready.
Do not try to fight Priscus with only melee weapons. He spends 80% of the fight airborne and out of reach. Without a bow and ranged skills, you will spend the entire fight dodging with no way to deal damage. This is a ranged encounter first, melee second.
Grounded Damage Windows
When Priscus is on the ground (from any of the three methods above):
- Sprint to his position immediately
- Use your strongest melee combos — he is vulnerable for 5–8 seconds depending on what grounded him
- Use Force Palm for bonus stagger during the window
- Disengage before he re-launches — getting hit by his takeoff deals heavy damage
Loot Drops
| Item | Drop Rate | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Blessing of the Immortal | 100% | Unique Abyss-related reward with powerful passive effects |
| Delesyian Contribution EXP x100 | 100% | Contribution Points for the Delesyian region |
| Ancient's Necklace | 100% | Unique accessory with enhanced stats |
| Ancient Retribution | 100% | Unique skill or Abyss Core reward |
Priscus the Ancient is one of Crimson Desert's most memorable encounters — a fight that demands patience, ranged proficiency, and the discipline to wait for ground windows rather than charging in recklessly.
