How to Beat Myurdin in Crimson Desert
Full boss guide for Myurdin, the main antagonist of Crimson Desert, including both human and lava transformation phases, gear requirements, and winning strategies.
Myurdin is the primary antagonist of Crimson Desert and one of the most demanding boss fights in the game. You first encounter him in an unbeatable tutorial prologue fight, then face him for real near the end of Chapter 7 at Ashclaw Keep in the Pailune region. This fight has two radically different phases and requires serious preparation.
Location
The Myurdin boss fight takes place at Ashclaw Keep in the Pailune region during the "Decisive Battle" main quest. This is a story-critical fight — you cannot progress past Chapter 7 without defeating him.
Preparation — This Fight is Unforgiving
Myurdin is the hardest mandatory boss in the game up to this point. Come underprepared and you will be reloading repeatedly.
Minimum Gear
- Tier 4 Canta Plate Helm and Armor — The Canta Helm is especially important because its "Nullifies Roar" affix counters one of Myurdin's stun moves
- Tier 5 Tauria Blade (or equivalent high-tier sword)
- Tier 3 Grey Wolf Bow for ranged phases
- Tier 4 Hernandian Noble Cloak
- Tier 3–4 Jewelry
Skills
- Max Health and Stamina upgrades in the skill tree
- All sword-related abilities in Kliff's skill tree completed
- Keen Senses Level 3 (Counter) strongly recommended
Supplies
- 100+ Chewy Rice Cakes — Buy from Lonnie at Greymane Camp. This fight is long and you will eat through food fast.
- Palmar Pills — Craft several for the 30% revival chance
- Expand inventory to 140+ slots so you have room for ample food and consumables
Recommended Abyss Cores
Slot these into your sword: Crow's Pursuit, Crimson Rose of Sin, and Wind Slash.
Stay away from the explosive barrels scattered around the arena at all costs. A boss slam near a barrel is essentially a one-shot kill. If you see barrels near your position, reposition immediately.
Phase 1 — Human Form
In his human form, Myurdin uses rapid slams and attack flurries with fast movement. He is aggressive and closes distance quickly.
Key Attacks
- Rapid Slam Flurry — A multi-hit combo of overhead slams. Dodge sideways through the first hit to get behind him.
- Ground Pound — Slams the ground with a shockwave. Dodge at the moment of impact.
- All-Fours Stance — When Myurdin crouches on all fours, stop attacking immediately. Only dodge and block during this stance — engaging him triggers devastating counterattacks.
Best Combos for Phase 1
Blinding Flash → Force Palm → Heavy Attack creates a stunlock sequence that deals massive damage safely.
Heavy Attack chains → Lariat combo is an alternative that deals even more damage but requires more precise timing.
Force Palm is your best friend in this fight — it staggers Myurdin and cancels many of his combos. Grappling skills are also effective in Phase 1.
When Myurdin crouches on all fours, resist the urge to attack. This stance is a bait — he will punish any aggression with a devastating counter. Wait patiently for him to return to his upright stance before engaging.
Phase 2 — Lava Transformation
This is where the fight becomes truly brutal. Myurdin transforms into a lava-infused creature with fire abilities. His damage output increases dramatically and his attack patterns change completely.
Key Attacks
- Lava Bear Charge — Transforms into a massive bear made of lava and charges 3–4 times. Do not engage during this form. Dodge repeatedly until he reverts.
- Fire Slam — Enhanced ground slam with fire AoE. The blast radius is larger than Phase 1 — dodge further away.
- Explosive Barrel Awareness — Barrels become even more lethal in Phase 2 because his slams have wider AoE that can detonate nearby barrels.
Strategy
Phase 2 requires a patient, dodge-heavy approach. The aggressive combos that worked in Phase 1 are too risky here. Wait for clear openings — they come after his Lava Bear form reverts and after certain slam recoveries.
Force Palm still staggers him in Phase 2, but Blinding Flash becomes less reliable. Focus on: dodge the lava form entirely → punish during recovery → Force Palm for extra hits → disengage.
Loot Drops
| Item | Drop Rate | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Melted Ambition | 100% | Unique weapon with fire-element damage |
| Pailunese Contribution EXP x3000 | 100% | Massive Contribution Point reward for the Pailune region |
Defeating Myurdin also triggers a control shift to Oongka as Kliff is incapacitated, leading to the next story segment.
