How to Use Hernand Refinement Tokens in Crimson Desert
Hernand Refinement Tokens are the early-game version of the new token-based gear refinement system. Here is where to use them, what they replace, and why they matter before stage 5.
This guide is intentionally narrower than the site's existing general Refinement Token explainer.
That page covers the system as a whole. This one covers the search query players actually use once the token popup appears early: how do I use Hernand Refinement Tokens?
Quick answer
Use Hernand Refinement Tokens at Turnali, the blacksmith in Hernand City.
The process is:
- talk to Turnali
- open the normal refinement menu
- switch to the
Refinement Tokentab - select your gear
- spend one token to raise that gear by one stage
These tokens can refine eligible gear up to Stage 4 without using the normal upgrade materials.
What Hernand Refinement Tokens actually do
Pearl Abyss introduced the token system in Patch 1.01.00. The official note says the new Refinement Token item can be used to temper equipment up to Stage 4 without additional materials and that tokens are obtained through certain main and faction quests.
PC Gamer's March 30 guide fills in the early-use detail:
Hernandtokens are the region-specific version most players see firstTurnaliis the Hernand-region blacksmith who uses them- each token covers one upgrade step
Why this guide is different from the general token explainer
The search intent here is not "what are refinement tokens?" It is usually one of these:
- where do I spend the Hernand ones?
- why can I not find them in the normal ore/material slot?
- are they worth using early?
The answer is that they live in their own menu tab and are best used as an early material-saver.
Best use case for Hernand tokens
These are strongest when:
- you are still short on ore and leather
- you want a fast early upgrade on a weapon or shield you are actively using
- you do not want to burn your best materials before stage 5+
They are weaker when:
- you are about to replace the item immediately
- you already have plenty of standard materials
- you are hoping to use them past stage 4
The system is convenience-first, not endgame-first.
Common mistake: looking for them in the wrong menu
The most common failure point is using the blacksmith correctly, but never switching to the token-specific tab. If you only stare at the normal material requirements, it looks like the tokens do nothing.
So if your bag says you have them but the smithy looks unchanged, check the Refinement Token tab before anything else.
