How to Beat the Reed Devil in Crimson Desert
Complete strategy guide for defeating the Reed Devil boss on Frozen Soul Mountain in Hernand, including totem mechanics, attack patterns, and loot drops.
The Reed Devil is one of the trickiest bosses in the Hernand region. Found on Frozen Soul Mountain, this encounter combines standard combat with a unique totem destruction mechanic that catches many players off guard.
Location
The Reed Devil is located at the summit of Frozen Soul Mountain in the Hernand region. Access the mountain through the northern paths from Roothold Stronghold. The path is guarded by mid-level enemies, so come prepared.
Boss Mechanics
Phase 1 — Standard Combat
The Reed Devil opens with sweeping melee attacks and frost breath. Its moveset includes:
- Three-hit claw combo — Dodge to the right after the second swing
- Frost breath cone — Run to its flank, do not try to dodge through it
- Tail sweep — Jump or dodge backward when it turns away from you
Chip its health down to roughly 70% to trigger Phase 2.
Phase 2 — Totem Phase
At 70% health, the Reed Devil retreats to the center of the arena and becomes invulnerable. It summons three Totems around the battlefield that pulse dark energy and heal the boss.
You must destroy all three Totems before the Reed Devil finishes its channeling. If the channel completes, it fully heals and you restart Phase 1.
The Totems have low HP but are guarded by smaller enemies. Prioritize clearing the adds near each Totem quickly, then destroy the Totem with a few hits. A bow can help snipe Totems from range if adds are overwhelming you.
Phase 3 — Enraged
After the Totems are destroyed, the Reed Devil becomes enraged. Its attacks are faster and it gains a new ability:
- Shadow Dash — Teleports behind you and attacks immediately. Listen for the audio cue and dodge as soon as you hear it.
Keep your stamina high and play defensively. The boss has less health in this phase, so consistent safe damage wins the fight.
Bring at least 5 cooked meals and a full potion stock. The fight is long due to the totem phase, and attrition is the biggest danger.
Recommended Preparation
- Weapon upgraded to at least +3
- Health stat at 4 or higher
- A bow for ranged Totem destruction
- Full food and potion supply
Loot Drops
| Item | Drop Rate | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Hernandian Contribution EXP | 100% | Grants 600 Contribution EXP for the Hernand region |
| Sunset Reed Cloth Gloves | 100% | Light armor gloves with frost resistance. Part of the Reed Devil set. |
| Frozen Soul Fragment | 35% | Rare crafting material used for frost-enchanted weapons |
Summary
The Reed Devil fight is all about the Totem phase. Learn the timing, prioritize Totem destruction, and the rest of the fight is manageable. Do not get greedy with damage during Phase 3 — play safe and the boss will go down.
