How to Beat Hexe Marie in Crimson Desert
Boss strategy guide for Hexe Marie, the Abyss witch boss in Crimson Desert. Learn her dark magic attack patterns, summoning phases, and how to survive this voice-acted encounter.
Hexe Marie is one of the most memorable boss encounters in Crimson Desert. This Abyss witch combines dark magic attacks with monster summoning and features full voice acting throughout the fight. She is as dangerous as she is dramatic.
Location
Hexe Marie is encountered in the Abyss Depths, a late-game dungeon accessible after progressing the main story beyond Hernand. The arena is a dark circular chamber with limited visibility.
Boss Overview
Unlike the physical brutes you have fought before, Hexe Marie is a magic-focused boss. She teleports frequently, summons waves of monsters, and casts devastating dark magic spells. Melee players need to close distance constantly while ranged players must avoid her homing projectiles.
Attack Patterns
Phase 1 — Dark Magic (100%–65% HP)
- Shadow Bolt Volley — Fires a spread of dark projectiles. Strafe in one direction to avoid the spread pattern.
- Void Grasp — Dark tendrils erupt from the ground beneath you. Watch for the purple glow on the floor and dodge immediately.
- Teleport Strike — Marie vanishes and reappears next to you with an instant melee attack. Listen for the audio cue — a distinct whisper plays before she appears.
- Dark Barrier — Periodically surrounds herself with a shield that reflects ranged attacks. Switch to melee when you see the purple aura.
Do not use ranged attacks when Hexe Marie has her Dark Barrier active. Reflected projectiles deal double damage back to you.
Phase 2 — Summoning (65%–30% HP)
Marie retreats to the center and becomes semi-invulnerable while summoning waves of Abyss creatures. You must defeat the summons to break her concentration.
- Wave 1 — Shadow Hounds (5–6 fast enemies, low HP)
- Wave 2 — Abyss Knights (2–3 armored enemies, high HP)
- Wave 3 — Void Wraith (single powerful enemy with grab attacks)
Clear each wave quickly. The longer the summoning phase lasts, the stronger Marie becomes in Phase 3.
Area-of-effect abilities like Blinding Flash Finisher are extremely valuable during the summoning phase. Save your skill cooldowns for these waves.
Phase 3 — Desperation (30%–0% HP)
Marie combines her magic attacks with continued summoning. She no longer teleports away but instead hovers above the ground, raining dark magic while smaller creatures swarm below.
- Dark Storm — Continuous area damage that covers the outer ring of the arena. Stay in the center.
- Soul Drain — A channeled beam that heals Marie if it connects. Interrupt it with a heavy attack or dodge behind cover.
Focus all damage on Marie in this phase. Ignore the smaller summons unless they are directly blocking your path to the boss.
Recommended Preparation
- Bring a Lantern — the arena is dark and visibility matters
- Stock extra health potions; this fight has high sustained damage
- Equip gear with dark resistance if available
- A fast weapon helps during the summoning phase
Strategy Summary
- Learn teleport audio cues to avoid surprise attacks
- Switch between ranged and melee based on Dark Barrier status
- Save AOE abilities for summoning waves
- Interrupt Soul Drain immediately in Phase 3
- Stay in the arena center during Dark Storm
Loot Drops

Hexe Marie is a fight that rewards attentiveness over raw power. Listen to her voice lines — they often telegraph her next attack. Stay calm, manage the summons, and she will fall.
